On 6 October, we welcomed infectious disease expert Leif Erik Sander from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin as a speaker of an Ad Hoc Semmelweis Seminar in Vienna. His talk, “Ortho- and heterotopic effects of immune responses to acute viral infections,” highlighted how immune responses to acute viral infections can affect not only the infected tissue but also other organs, and how these processes contribute to tissue damage, repair, and long-term health effects.
